In the following we illustrate the installation sequence of the different subdetectors to assemble the full ATHENA detector.
Installation Sequence of the ATHENA Detector at IP-6
The Athena detector reuses the cradle on the STAR detector with an inset to rotate the detector by 8 mrad so the Solenoid is parallel to the electron beam
The next step is to install the flu return bars which are also recycled from STAR.
The lower half gets built up by the steal bars and spacers in-between
Next the Barrel Hadron Calorimeter gets laid onto of the steal bars.
The lower half is fully built up
Next the Solenoid gets installed
The Barrel HCAl and the flux return are getting built up till the ring is closed.
The Barrel Flux-return and hadron calorimeter are finalized the outer radius is 3.2 m
next the Barrel electromagnetic calorimeter support ring is installed on the outgoing lepton beam side
next the self supporting Barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter is moved in
the Barrel electromagnetic calorimeter support ring is installed on the outgoing hadron beam side
next step is to install the support structure for the DIRC and the electron endcap electromagnetic Calorimeter
the DIRC bars are getting moved in
the next step is the installation of the barrel tracker and the beam pipe. This includes the disks at both endocarps, the barrel MAPS tracker and the MicroMega barrel tracker
the next sub detector is the aerogel proximity focussing RICH
The last subdetector to be installed at the lepton endcap is the electromagnetic calorimeter
The electromagnetic calorimeter is followed by the expansion volume and the modules of the DIRC
At the hadron endcap the dual radiator RICH is installed, the RICH is supported of the barrel HCal
the Hadron endcap RICH is followed by the GEM tracker, supported of the barrel HCal
The lepton endcap HCal and hadron endcap ECal and HCal need to be opened transverse to the beam pipe, this is the one half of the support structure for the lepton endcap HCal.
The lepton and hadron endcap calorimeter support structures, with can be opened transverse to the beam pipe.
The lepton and hadron endcap calorimeters invigorated in the support structures and the hadron endcap in open position
The ATHENA detector with the hadron endcap ECal and HCal in open position.
The Athena detector integrated in the interaction region between the accelerator focussing magnets. And the rapid cycling synchrotron running on the ring outside along the detector.
