CDR Standards for Terminology, Grammar, Abbreviations, and so on

Let's try and keep items roughly in alphabetical order, when it makes sense.
Follow the AP style standards, except if/when physics convention disagrees.
Amelia, when we reference chapters and sections, do we use "see Chapter x" or "see chapter x", and is "x" just the number or is it like "6: Title of Chapter"?

- LAr20 - the proposed liquid argon detector of mass 20kT
- "mu symbol" -- mu, represents a muon; if succeeded by unit (e.g., s, m), then "micro" 10E-6
- "mu bar symbol" -- antimuon
- mwe - meters-water-equivalent
- "nu symbol" - nu, represents neutrino
- "nu bar symbol" - represents antineutrino
- photoelectron (no dash) = PE (upper case; similar for SPE)
- photomultiplier tube = PMT (not tube, not phototube, not photon detector)
- "pi symbol" -- pion, or in equation, the value 3.1416...
- "sigma" symbol" -- (small) a measure of resolution, a standard deviation
- CC - charged current
- Gd - gadolinium
- NC - neutral current
- POGO - preservation of gadolinium option
- WC - water Cherenkov
- WCSim - a water Cherenkov simulation program
- IMB - detector in Morton Salt Mine
- SNO - Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, Canada
- write out "one" through "nine" (except with units after it), use numerals for "10" and greater
- Earth (cap when referring to planet)
- proper nouns, generally capitalize but not things like: "absorber", "far detector", "far site", etc.
- Standard Model (cap)
- sun (no cap)
- universe (no cap)
- sensitive volume vs fiducial volume (someone define, please)
- Volume where the detection efficiency is nonzero
- Volume, not larger than SV, in which events are accepted. Can be analysis dependent.
- For labs use: Fermilab, Brookhaven, Los Alamos National Laboratory, etc.
- No terminal comma (in a comma-delineated list before the "and" preceding the final item)
- The period and comma always go within the quotation marks (ex. This fast removal, or "single-turn extraction," is the quickest method possible.). The dash, semicolon, exclamation point and question mark go within the quotation marks when they apply to the quoted matter only. They go outside when they apply to the whole sentence.

- "antimatter" and "antiparticle" (no hyphens)
- "long baseline" but "long-baseline experiment" (hyphenate when used as adjective)
- "under high pressure" but "high-pressure valve" (hyphenation; also use for similar cases)
