An overview: DAQ configuration, detectors & target assignments, Am/Gd source locations

In the transition pp->pA, the targets in the Blue (proton beam) polarimeters were replaced, and two failing or suspect detectors in B2D were replaced with ones from the Yellow polarimeters, which were not operated during the pA running

Readout

As since Run 12 the readout had independent systems for the Blue and Yellow polarimeters. This provided improved stability and simpler and faster setup and adjustment of e.g. timing parameters

Detectors

All detectors in ports 2,3,4,5 (horizontal 90-deg. and bottom 45-deg. ports) were BNL 2mm strip width, installed with azimuthal segmentation. They were collected from existing batches from the last several years, in storage by CAD and Instrumentation

All detectors in ports 1,6 (top 45-deg. ports) were BNL 1 mm strip width, installed with longitudinal segmentation (downstream->upstream: det. 1 chan. 1->12, det. 6 chan. 72->61). They were reused from Run13

Targets

The targets were from the standard fabrication technique, 2x thinnest size: 50 nm thick x 7-10 wide x 25 mm long. A new feature was the addition of small disks ("fins") where the targets attached to the frame; EM simulations showed that this would reduce fields at the attachment point and hence reduced ohmic heating. The targets did show good lifetime, but to ensure an adequate supply all targets in the Blue polarimeters were replace in the swtich from pp to pA on 27.04.15

Alpha Sources

As in previous years there were Am sources at all 90-deg. ports. As since Run 12 Gd sources were also installed at the 90-deg. ports in B2D and Y2U
