An overview: which detector types, target types & alpha sources in which polarimeter, which DAQ readout

As since Run 12 the readout had independent systems for the Blue and Yellow polarimeters. This provided improved stability and simpler and faster setup and adjustment of e.g. timing parameters.

The new detectors produced by Instrumentation for Run17 (BNL 2 mm strip width) were reused for Run22. As in Run17 they were installed with azimuthal segmentation.

In two ports (B1U-1 and Y1U-1) two detectors were installed, one above the other separated by ~1 cm. The purpose was to measure particles which punch through the front detector and are also detected in the rear detector. Detectors from the pool of spares from the Run17 production were used. Only the 6 center strips in each detector were read out, requiring no additional DAQ channels.

The targets were from the standard fabrication technique, 2x thinnest size: 50 nm thick x 7-10 u wide x 25 mm long. A new feature since 2015 was the addition of small disks ("fins") where the targets attached to the frame; EM simulations showed that this would reduce fields at the attachment point and hence reduce ohmic heating. Due to space limitations the target positions closest to the chamber wall (5,6) could not be fitted with the disks.

Alpha Sources

As in previous years there were 241Am sources at all 90-deg. ports. As since Run 12 148Gd sources were also installed at the 90-deg. ports in B2D and Y2U.
